A shoplifter who struck twice at Sheffield's John Lewis store has been placed on a rehabilitation programme to help him beat drugs.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on March 12 how Harvey Currie, 20, of Eastern Avenue, Sheffield, stole three speakers from the store on December 21 but he was caught when he returned the following day and stole a further speaker.

David Marshall, prosecuting, said Currie had been seen on CCTV during the first theft and when he came back the next day and stole another speaker he was detained.

Currie pleaded guilty to the two thefts.

The probation service confirmed that Currie has been involved in drug use.

The defendant revealed he is keen to work with the probation service to address his problems.

Magistrates sentenced Currie to a 12-month community order with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement. He has also been ordered to pay £139.95 compensation.
