Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on March 19 how Kelly Smith, aged 36, of Victoria Court, Kiveton Park, Rotherham, stole goods from a Co-op on Chapel Street at Woodhouse in Sheffield.

Robert Coyne, prosecuting, said she was seen selecting items from a display and placing them in a black bag before only paying for milk but she was stopped and found to have stolen chocolate and coffee.

The court heard Smith had breached a conditional discharge for a previous theft and is subject to a community order with a drug rehabilitation programme.

Matt Hague, defending, said Smith's offending was down to drug addiction but since the theft she has been progressing and is on a methadone prescription.

Smith was fined £120 and must pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
