Shocking South Yorkshire shooting stat emerges after schoolboy, 12, shot on Sheffield estate

Police officers in South Yorkshire have dealt with eight shootings in the county in the space of eight days – the equivalent of one every 24 hours.

The shooting of a young boy in Sheffield yesterday was the eighth shooting in South Yorkshire in an eight-day period.

A 12-year-old boy was shot in his leg when a gun was fired from a car on Errington Road, Arbourthorne, at around 3.45pm.

South Yorkshire Police said the youngster was injured when a gun was fired from a car as it drove past a group of men and children.

No arrests have yet been made.

The day before, shots were fired at a house in Balby, Doncaster.

Between 9pm and 9.15pm that night a gunman fired shots at the downstairs window of a house on Burton Avenue, causing damage.

There were two shootings on Sheffield on Friday, January 10 within the space of five minutes.

At 10.55pm shots were fired on Northcote Avenue, Meersbrook and at 11pm a gun was fired during at the Kettle Black bar on Ecclesall Road.

Luca Premi, 24, of Treswell Crescent, Hillsborough, has been charged with possession of a bladed article, possession of an imitation firearm and assault over the Kettle Black incident.

That same day, a 29-year-old man was shot in his back after a gun was fired outside a supermarket on Burman Road, Wath, Rotherham.

A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

On Wednesday, January 8 shots were fired at a house in Adwick-Le-Street, Doncaster.

At 2.35am, a car pulled up outside a house on Lutterworth Drive and a gun was fired towards the house.

Damage was caused to a car on the drive and to a downstairs window of the property.

The occupants of the house were unharmed.

On Tuesday, January 7 a 44-year-old man was shot in his arm on Carlisle Street, Burngreave, Sheffield.

And on Saturday, January 4, a 28-year-old man was seriously injured in a shooting on Staniforth Road, Darnall, Sheffield.

No arrests have yet been made.

South Yorkshire Police has been asked for details on any other shootings not yet made public by the force over the same period.
