Sheffield’s ‘most wanted burglar’ arrested after scaling roof to evade police

A man has been arrested in the police hunt for Sheffield’s ‘most wanted’ burglar.

He was apprehended after a police chase through Gleadless in which he was pursued by officers on the ground, in the air and in cars.

The man was tracked down to the roof of a building he scaled to evade arrest.

South Yorkshire Police said the arrest was part of an operation to apprehend ‘Sheffield’s most wanted burglar’.

It has not yet been revealed whether he has been charged.

Recently released figures show an average of 30 burglaries a day are reported in South Yorkshire.

Last year, a total of 10,953 break-ins were reported, with 7,833 homes and 3,120 business or community buildings targeted.

The figure is down 26 per cent on the previous year, when 14,827 burglaries were logged.

It has also emerged that only five per cent of burglaries reported in Sheffield between July and September last year were solved.
