NHS England data shows that 282 hospital patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have died in the city so far – the same figure as yesterday.

There have been 212 deaths in Doncaster, which is an increase of two compared to yesterday; 184 in Rotherham, which is the same as yesterday and 137 in Barnsley, which is up one on yesterday’s figures.

Lockdown measures have been eased this week, with more shops allowed to reopen.

It is thought that pubs and restaurants could be allowed to start trading again on July 4.

Work to develop a vaccine is continuing, with one of the scientists involved stating that volunteers for clinical trials are ‘vitally important’.

The first phase of the trials is set to begin this week with 300 people involved.
