Sheffield woman charged with sending 'threatening and abusive' messages online

A Sheffield woman has been charged with nine offences relating to malicious, threatening and abusive messages posted on social media.

Katie Louise Bell, of Stradbroke Road, is accused of sending the messages, targeting numerous recipients, between December 31, 2016 and February 16, 2020.

The 24-year-old faces two counts of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

These relate to two series of messages received by two different victims, one over a three-year period and one over 10 months.

South Yorkshire Police said Bell also faces seven counts of sending malicious communications under the Communications Act.

These charges relate to comments publicly posted on tweets shared by South Yorkshire Police and the Metropolitan Police between November 8, 2018 and October 3, 2019.

Bell has been bailed and is set to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on June 7 next year.
