Officers from Immigration Enforcement attended HFC, in Staniforth Road, Darnall and Zizzona, in Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, in mid 2023.

During the visits, two people without the right to work in the UK were arrested at HFC in May 2023, leading to a £30,000 penalty.

Meanwhile, one person who was in breach of restrictions were arrested at Zizzona in Jul 2023, resulting in a £20,000 fine.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "Since these penalties were levied, the maximum civil penalty that can be issued to employers when a worker does not have the required permission has increased from £20,000 to £60,000.

“Illegal working causes untold harm to our communities, cheating honest workers out of employment, putting vulnerable people at risk, and defrauding the public purse.

“Illegal working visits are up by more than 50 per cent on last year and arrests have more than doubled, with more people arrested in 2023 than during the whole of 2022 as a result of this activity. We are also removing those with no right to be in the UK.”
