Sheffield suspect still on run two years on since man battered to death with golf clubs

A Sheffield suspect wanted over a murder remains on the run two years after a man was battered to death with golf clubs, screwdrivers, a knife, scissors and length of wood.

Shaun Lyall, 47, was found with multiple injuries at his home in Cleethorpes on July 17, 2018, with the motive for his killing said to have been missing drugs and cash he was supposed to have been looking after.

Craig Whittle, 45, of Corporation Road, Grimsby, was jailed for life over the murder in December last year.

But Abdi Ali, aged 30, who has been named as a ‘significant’ suspect by police and who jurors at Whittle’s trial were told was also involved in the brutal attack, has never been found despite repeated appeals and a £5,000 Crimestoppers reward for information leading to his arrest.

Ali, also known as Madman, Madders and Gulaid, is originally from Somalia but moved to Sheffield as a child.

He moved to the east coast in the summer of 2018 but still has links to Pitsmoor and Shirecliffe in Sheffield.

On the anniversary of her son’s death, Serena Lyall posted a heartbreaking message, which said: “You may have left my life but you will never leave my heart.”

Humberside Police say Ali has a distinctive gold front tooth and is believed to have links to Lancashire, Merseyside, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Lincolnshire and Cleveland as well as South Yorkshire.
