South Yorkshire Police said additional patrols have been mounted in the Heeley area, with two recent break-ins committed while the occupants of the houses were at home.

Inspector Colette Fitzgibbons, of the Sheffield South West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are getting a small number of burglaries reported. Even a small number is not good though.

“The key area is around Heeley. At both recent premises, occupants were unsure if they had locked their doors. “Both premises were burgled in the early hours - any time from 11pm onwards - and the occupants had lap tops and cash stolen.

“Please make a real effort to check all doors and windows are secure before going to bed.

“We have got additional patrols going on so ring if you spot anyone suspicious as there may be staff just round the corner to respond.”
