Police are investigating a spate of burglaries in a Sheffield suburb where homes were broken into for the vehicles parked outside.

A house on Clifton Crescent, Handsworth, was broken into on March 10, after the burglar damaged a lock on the rear patio door to gain entry.

The keys to a red Seat Leon were taken and the car was later found on Waterthorpe Gardens.

On March 16 a house was targeted on Lound Road, Handsworth, and a black Ford Fiesta was stolen.

The car, with the registration number DX55 SXJ, is still missing.

Police said the car contained a black golf bag with Titleist golf clubs.

A `One True Saxon,’ three-quarter length, navy blue, zip-up hooded coat was also taken, along with two keys.

On 17 March at a home on Houstead Road, Handsworth, culprits fished the keys for a Mercedes Sprinter van through a cat flap.

The vehicle was found on Miles Road, High Green, later that day.

A police spokeswoman described the thefts as ‘a blip’.

Anyone with information about the break ins should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
