Sheffield street told to ‘stay indoors’ as armed police, dogs and helicopter search area

Residents were urged to stay indoors when armed police officers were deployed to a Sheffield suburb last night.

Armed officers, with their guns clearly visible, were involved in a police operation in Walkley last night which is said to have centered around Industry Street.

A police helicopter or plane was also scrambled to provide overhead assistance to officers on the ground.

One resident said: “I live in Walkley and at around 11pm I witnessed armed police searching Industry Street up and down.

“One arrest was made but they kept searching with dogs.

“Something serious must have happened. Police advised everyone to stay indoors.

“The police guns were similar to the ones you see at airports.

“I counted at least six armed police officers and there was also an airplane involved in this.

“No idea what that was about, but it kept the whole neighbourhood up.”
