Abdi Warsama, 25, was arrested by officers in March when he was seen running away from a group of people on Harcourt Road in Sheffield, along with several other men.

DC Matt Price, investigating, said: “Officers chased Warsama, who ditched a bundle of money as he ran – around £1,000 was found under a metal gate that he had passed.

“Once detained, Warsama was found to be in possession of £435 in cash, whilst searches of his vehicle and his address lead to the discovery of drugs scales and more money.

Prior to his arrest, officers had already visited the accommodation Warsama was staying at on Langdon Street in Sheffield, and recovered 25 bags of cannabis, with an estimated value of between £3,000 and £5,000.

He had also had a phone seized and wraps of drugs recovered from a vehicle he’d been travelling in September last year, that phone contained a substantial amount of messages, which suggested he was dealing drugs.”

Warsama, of Atherton Road, Sheffield pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply and use of criminal property at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday (May 29).

Detective Constable Matt Price said: “Warsama rightly deserves to be behind bars, the judge’s comments that he is a serious dealer are accurate. He, like many other dealers, is leaving a trail of misery behind him and a custodial sentence is certainly justified.”
