Hopkinson pleaded guilty to the attempted theft.

Louisa Gibling, defending, said Hopkinson had been homeless but after this offence he realised he no longer wishes to follow the path he had found himself on.

She added Hopkinson has since found accommodation and is hoping to secure work.

Magistrates sentenced Hopkinson to a six-month conditional discharge. He must pay £85 costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
