Sheffield shop worker punched in the face by thug who pulled a syringe during robbery

Police are investigating two armed robberies in which staff at two separate convenience stores were threatened with a needle.

The first incident took place at the Co-op on Southey Green Road, at around 6pm on Friday, July 17.

Police said a man entered the store and, after being challenged by the manager in relation to shoplifting, punched him in the face.

He then allegedly threatened the victim with a syringe before stealing between £100 and £150.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Extensive enquires are now ongoing to identify and locate the suspect.”

Anyone with any information should call 101, quoting incident number 789 of July 17.

Just days later, at around 8pm on Sunday, July 19, a similar crime was reported at the Co-op on Bevan Way in Burncross.

During the incident, a raider reportedly threatened staff at the store with a needle before stealing cash and fleeing towards Burns Drive.

It is unknown whether the incidents are linked.
