Sheffield schoolgirl’s terror after man tried to ‘lift her over his shoulder’ as she walked home from lessons

A police hunt is under way for a man who attempted to lift a girl over his shoulders as she walked home from a Sheffield school.

The incident took place off Hurlfield Road, Arbourthorne, as a 16-year-old girl Sheffield Springs Academy student was walking home.

South Yorkshire Police said the teenager was walking from Hurlfield Road towards the leisure centre on East Bank Road, when she was approached by an ‘unknown man’ who ‘attempted to lift her over his shoulder’.

The girl managed to free herself from the man’s clutches and ran home.

The incident was reported at around 4.20pm on Monday, December 16.

South Yorkshire Police said local schools have been alerted to the incident.

The force said: “Enquiries are under way to identify the man.

Officers have been in contact with local schools to offer reassurance and PCSOs will be in the area throughout the last week of term to offer high-visibility reassurance.”
