Sheffield Crown Court heard on February 22 how Steven Scott, aged 28, of Atlantic Road, Lowedges, Sheffield, contacted the decoy in May, 2017, and they communicated online and by texting and the defendant’s messages became sexual.

Nicola Quinney, prosecuting, said some of the communications were simple conversations but others were of a sexual nature and he sent images of his erect penis and told her she could have a naughty picture at any time.

Ms Quinney added the defendant suggested he would like to kiss her neck, bum and inner thigh and before attempting to meet her in July, 2017, he told her he was going to kiss her and he wanted to touch her bum.

An arrangement was made to meet at Barnsley Interchange rail and bus station, according to Ms Quinney, but Scott was met by members of the paedophile hunter group Parents Against Paedophiles.

Ms Quinney added police subsequently searched Scott’s home and found two category B indecent images of children and 17 category C images on a phone, and one category C image on a computer - with category B being the more serious.

Scott, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to attempting to incite a girl into sexual activity, two counts of attempting to cause a girl to look at an image of sexual activity, one count of attempting to meet a girl following grooming, and to three counts of making indecent images.

Dermot Hughes, defending, said: “There is an increasing realisation on the part of Steven Scott that he has problems and he needs help with those problems.

"There has not been any further offending. He’s very vulnerable and he has become isolated because of these proceedings.”

Judge David Dixon sentenced Scott to two years of custody suspended for two years with 43 sex-offending group work sessions and a 55-day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 75 hours of unpaid work.

Scott was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order prohibiting him from being in the same household with someone aged under 16 and also drastically restricting his use of computers.
