Richard Burns-Carr, aged 50, of Industry Road, Darnall, Sheffeld, was arrested after police found he had indecent images of youngsters on multiple electronic devices, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing on March 11.

Prosecuting barrister Andrew Bailey told the hearing: “On November 15, 2018, officers attended an address in Darnall to arrest the defendant and upon arresting him they searched his property and vehicle and seized a number of digital devices.”

Mr Bailey said indecent images were found across multiple devices covering a three-month period and they included 225 category A, 248 category B, and 638 category C images - with category A being the most serious.

Burns-Carr, who has no relevant previous convictions, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images on the basis he had downloaded the images.

Ian West, defending, said Burns-Carr had a difficult childhood and was “knocked down” when he was 31-years-old and he has tried to commit suicide.

Mr West added Burns-Carr is a very ill man with limited mobility who lives in a disability bungalow.

Recorder David Gordon told Burns-Carr: “We are talking about chilren here. Tormented, tortured, abused in the most terrible way.”

He added: “Anyone under the illusion that these offences involve no victim needs to think again.”

Recorder Gordon sentenced Burns-Carr to 16 months of custody suspended for two years with a rehabilitation requirement and a six-month curfew.

Burns-Carr was also placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
