Sheffield pensioner, 91, ‘shook up’ after patio fire ‘destroys’ her home

A patio fire which took three hours to tackle has left two homes, including that of a 91-year-old woman, ‘completely destroyed’.

Firefighters were called to Overend Drive in Gleadless Valley on Thursday, May 28, just before 10.15pm, after a patio fire spread to the roofs of two properties.

Crews from Birley Moor and Rotherham stations were at the scene until 1am as they battled to get the blaze under control.

Reports on social media said one of the homes on fire was that of a 91-year-old woman, who is ‘OK, but shook up’ and no longer able to live in the home, which has been ravaged by the flames.

Pictures posted online show all of the conservatory windows smashed through as well as the windows in an upstairs bedroom. Several pieces of furniture have also been ruined.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said the fire was believed to have started accidentally.
