Sheffield mum issues urgent warning to street after man tries to break into her home

The 36-year-old, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, said the man had come to her Darnall home the night before the incident, claiming to be looking for his sister.

"He came about 9.30pm and we thought he was delivering food for us. When I opened the door, he was quite slurry and I thought he was a bit drunk.

"He said he was looking for his sister, but I found it weird but I didn't think anything of it.

"The next night, my husband ordered food and we were waiting for the food to be delivered so when someone knocked the door, my son opened it and this guy rammed the door open," she said.

The mother-of-three said she realised it was the same man who had come to the house before when she and her husband ran downstairs to see the man at the door as her son screamed for help.

"Then my husband asked what he was doing and the man insisted that he was looking for his sister and my husband told him she wasn't there and shut the door," she said.

She said her children were petrified since the incident took place.

"My son was crying as he was shocked someone tried to force his way into the house. And then my daughter, who is only 6, ran upstairs and kept crying.

"We didn't know how to comfort them as we are both positive, so we couldn't hug them," she said.

She described the man as middle aged, white and spoke with an Irish accent.

South Yorkshire Police said the police have launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Officers attended a property on Locke Road in Sheffield on 23 November at around 9.30am.

"It is reported that an unknown man had tried to enter the property after knocking on the door. The man was described as being intoxicated and confused."
