Jason Glover called 999 from a public phone box on Southey Avenue and asked for police to be sent straight away because "I'm just about to kill someone, "at 8.40pm, on April 8.

He said: "Oh my God. I am going ballistic. You better send someone quickly."

The call handler said he spoke "very fast" for about six minutes, and sounded "like he was out of control and completely off the scale."

Police.Police.
Police.

"I am going to go up there with my f****** knife," he said, before threatening to “put his neighbour in a body bag,” said prosecutor Ian Goldsack, on Wednesday.

"Just send someone before I kill the f****** c***, before I slash his throat."

"He said he would slice the call handler and the whole department," Mr Goldsack added.

When police arrived after also receiving a call from his neighbour, they found Glover drunk. He told them two televisions had been stolen from his flat along with £140 in cash.

He said he had been burgled four times and his windows had to be boarded up.

"He suspected his neighbours as a fob is needed to get into the communal building," Mr Goldsack said. "He didn't remember calling the police or making threats."

Two weeks later, Glover walked into a shop on Herries Road, opened and drank from a bottle of wine, and then walked out with it after his bank card was declined. When he returned later, the doors were locked.

"He banged a fire extinguisher against the door and threatened to kill the female cashier unless she gave him a bottle of wine," Mr Goldsack said.

"She said she wasn't particularly scared as she is used to dealing with customers."

He rang police again and confessed he had stolen the bottle, later saying he planned to kill his neighbour with scissors, but couldn't find any scissors.

The court heard he has 37 previous convictions for 60 offences, including assault, disorder and possession of a blade, which demonstrated a longstanding problem with alcohol.

Benn Robinson, mitigating, said Glover spent 34 years in Canada, where he has a wife and four children, before he was deported in 2009.

"He was no angel in Canada, but it appears to be the separation from his family which has been the catalyst for his problematic relationship with alcohol."

He said Glover, who is bi-polar and suffering from depression, had been "targeted, abused and tormented by local youths over a period of time."

Mr Robinson said, but has since been engaging with the mental health team and is “on the cusp of being moved by Sheffield City Council.”

Glover, 52, of Southey Avenue, pleaded guilty to two counts of making threats to kill.

Judge Michael Slater said: "It's clear to me that you had reached the end of your tether."

He sentenced him to 20 months, suspended for two years, with 30 days of rehabilitation, and imposed a five-year restraining order banning Glover from contacting his first victim.
