Sheffield man threatened cops 'I'm going to smash your f****** face in'

Ryan Christie shut the door on four officers at his flat on Lingfoot Place, following noise complaints at 4am, on July 10, last year, prosecutor Stephanie Hollis said.

He shouted racist abuse from a window, and when they tried to defuse the situation, followed them bellowing more abuse.

He kicked the walls of the police van and shouted: "I'm going to smash your f****** face in."

Christie's comments were described by one officer as "hurtful, vile and unnecessary and have no place in our society."

Officers returned at 1.40am, on August 25, when they found a distraught woman outside and Christie asleep on the sofa.

But when he was arrested, he climbed through the handcuffs so they were in front of him and began spitting.

As he was carried to the van he tried to bite, and later pinched, one of the officers.

Another domestic incident was reported at 7.50pm, on November 15. Christie kicked out at officers, climbed through the cuffs and claimed he'd taken an overdose. He later admitted lying about it at hospital.

The court heard he has 19 previous convictions, including a violent robbery in 2013 when he received four years in a Young Offenders Institute.

He received a 15 month suspended sentence on November 16, 2018, for kicking a former partner in the back and fracturing three vertebrae.

Ismael Uddin, mitigating, said the offences were "impulsive and committed in drink."

"When he comes into contact with authority he reacts in completely the wrong way," he said.

He said the dad-of-two worked as a quality control manager at a Shepcote Lane factory and needs help with his thinking skills.

Christie, 26, pleaded guilty to four counts of racially aggravated harassment and three assaults, as well as a breach of the suspended sentence.

Recorder Amy Mannion activated nine months of the suspended order and added seven months for the new offences, making a total of 16 months in prison.
