The defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, sent numerous messages to the woman between July 1 and August 8 last year, Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Wednesday, February 19.

Prosecuting, Donna Fawcett said he had sent her repeated text messages during the first three weeks of July, including some that were threatening.

He then uploaded the photograph onto his WhatsApp page and sent it to her, and made references to a previous sexual assault she had suffered, stating, “I’m going to have you raped again”, she said.

The court heard that he had not been prosecuted for ‘revenge porn’ after it transpired that his only follower on the app was the lady in question.

Matters came to ahead when he turned up at the woman’s house on August 9, and started hammering on her windows and causing damage to a fence, she added.

“She heard her dog barking and then someone said there was a man at her front door,” she told the court. “Then she saw his head appear over the fence and he started shouting, ‘Where’s my son, who are you f****** with, and who are you with, you s***?’. She then dialled 999 and he went back around the front and started banging on the windows so hard that he woke the children up, who were sleeping upstairs.”

Speaking in his own defence, the defendant said he “had now moved on and was in a better place.”

The man, who admitted harassment, was given a 12 week prison term suspended for 12 months, and a five-year restraining order, banning him from going to the area near Worksop, Nottinghamshire, where the woman lives, or visiting a school where their children attend school.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £122 victim surcharge.

Sentencing, District Judge Jonathan Taaffe said: “This was sustained torture of a lady in her own house because the relationship had broken down.”
