Sheffield man punished for handling stolen goods

A man who handled stolen goods which had been taken from a burglary has been given a community order.

David Trueman, aged 59, of Green Oak Crescent, Totley, Sheffield, admitted collecting property that was being stored after it had been stolen, according to a Sheffield Crown Court hearing.

Judge Roger Thomas QC told the hearing on April 30 the property had originally been stolen by another man from a garage during a burglary at Whirlowdale Road, Whirlow, Sheffield.

But Trueman had collected the stolen property from a location at the other man’s bidding, according to Judge Thomas.

Trueman pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods.

He was sentenced to an 18-month community order with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and a Thinking Skills Programme.

Judge Thomas warned Trueman if he breached his order he may face a custodial sentence.

The court heard the stolen goods were recovered by police and the other offender was jailed for a number of burglaries.
