Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard how Martin Roberts, aged 32, of Sharrow Vale Road, Sheffield, admitted harassing his ex-partner by repeatedly contacting her between February 8 and 16.

He also accepted that the court proved after a trial in his absence that he had previously assaulted his ex-partner and damaged her coat and phone during offences committed in November, 2019.

James Fox-McGowan, defending, explained Roberts had pleaded not guilty to the assault and damage matters and he had received correspondence not to attend the trial date but the hearing went ahead in his absence through no fault of the defendant’s.
