Sheffield man caught with cocaine after police stop car

Sheffield Crown Court heard on Thursday, November 12, how Zak Cockayne, aged 28, of Cedar Road, Stocksbridge, Sheffield, was found with the drugs after police stopped a car on Haggstones Road, Worrall, Sheffield.
Recorder Gavin Diog said: “Officers were passed by a Mercedes vehicle in Sheffield that day and they followed the vehicle and the vehicle accelerated and sought to escape from them and the vehicle was pulled over.”

Hide AdHe told Cockayne: “You were in the front passenger seat and you were searched and officers noticed a cling film wrap with a white substance.”
Brian Outhwaite, prosecuting, revealed that officers found two lots of cocaine valued at £350 and £320 of different purities and police searched Cockayne’s home and found £900 in cash.
Cockayne, who has no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing a class A drug with intent to supply after the incident in July, 2018.
Ian Goldsack, defending, said Cockayne told his probation officer he had bought the drugs from money pooled with friends with the intention the drugs were to be shared.

Hide AdHe added Cockayne suffers with anxiety and depression and has been dependent on benefits because he is unable to work.
Mr Goldsack said Cockayne has expressed genuine regret and remorse.
Recorder Doig sentenced Cockayne to 18 months of custody suspended for two years with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and a six-month curfew. He also confiscated the £900 in cash found at Cockayne’s home.
