Sheffield North East Neighbourhood Policing Team mocked the Burngreave arrest in a Facebook post, where they wrote: “Bah humbug officers stop man from getting his KFC”.

It comes after officers in the suburb stopped a vehicle which was seen to be ‘acting suspiciously in an area well known for drug activity’ and searched the car after the man said he was "just picking [his] mates up to go to KFC”.

The force said: “For two of the festive feasters, it was all gravy and they were allowed to go on their way. Unfortunately our chap below won't be waking up to much yuletide cheer as he makes his way to the first court of the day tomorrow.”

He will appear in Sheffield Magistrates’ Court today.
