Sheffield man arrested for making 'slitting-throat' gesture

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on December 19 how Idris Omar, aged 21, of Kilton Place, Burngreave, made the threatening gesture after police had been called to a disturbance at Christ Church Road, Burngreave.

Emily King, prosecuting, said Omar had attended his partner's address but police were called because he had been asked to leave and said he would return with a weapon.

Police did not find a weapon but Omar was abusive towards police, according to Miss King.

Miss King added the defendant was waving his arms around and was resisting arrest and was making violent “slitting-throat” gestures.

Omar pleaded guilty to being drunk-and-disorderly after the incident on November 29.

He told the court he had consumed too much alcohol and was sorry.

Magistrates sentenced Omar to a 12-month conditional discharge and he must pay a £21 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
