Sheffield "idiot" hid blade "between bum cheeks"

Jeremiah Foster discarded the serrated eight-inch bladed weapon when officers tried to search him, on Dryden Road, at 2.30pm, on January 4, last year.

He was later spotted by a plainclothes police officer while he was sitting in a Kia car, which smelled of cannabis, on Halifax Place, Nottingham, on December 16, 2019.

Prosecutor Lucky Thandi described how Foster drove off when he was confronted, but was detained in a nearby car park.

He admitted having a lock-knife "between his bum cheeks" before he was searched at the police station.

He has one previous conviction for possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, in 2017, when he received a 28-month sentence, Ms Thandi added.

Judge Stuart Rafferty QC asked: "Why does a 25-year-old idiot keep arming himself with knives?"

Adrian Reynolds, mitigating, replied: "The best answer I can give is that he hasn't done it since December, last year."

Foster, of Cookson Close, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a blade and driving without insurance or a license.

On Thursday, at Nottingham Crown Court, the judge told Foster: "I'm not going to ask the question again because I suspect if you answered it truthfully it wouldn't go well for you.

"You need to wise up. Not just because it is against the law but because there will come a time when you find (a knife) in your hand and about three seconds later someone will be seriously injured or dead.

"If dead, you will face a mandatory prison sentence of 25 years. If you think that's a risk worth taking then carry on.

"You trotted out the worst explanation I have ever heard for carrying it. I am going to give you a chance that many judges would not give you.

"If you don't take this chance, you and I will meet each other again."

Judge Rafferty imposed a 12 month sentence, suspended for two years, with 20 rehabilitation days. Foster's licence was endorsed with six penalty points.
