Sheffield heroin dealer jailed for three years

A Sheffield man has been jailed for more than three years after being caught dealing heroin and cocaine by officers in Rotherham.

Jerone Thompson, of Halifax Road, was detained on March 10 after officers witnessed him dealing drugs close to Wharncliffe flats in the town centre.

He was promptly arrested under suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs and when later searched, police recovered drugs, cash and a burner phone.

Inspector Chris Blake, from Rotherham’s Central Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Three of my officers were out on patrol near the town centre when they witnessed Thompson dealing drugs to two other men.

“Despite Thompson’s protests that these drugs were for personal use, the subsequent investigation proved otherwise.

“We have been carrying out enhanced patrols recently in our local communities to encourage compliance with social distancing. This has given us a fantastic opportunity to disrupt criminality such as this.

“Drugs and drug related crime can devastate communities and those involved in this type of crime pose a real threat to the safety of the public.

“This is a great example of the value of neighbourhood policing.”

The 23-year-old was handed a 40 month sentence after being convicted of the offences last week (29 April).
