Sheffield flats where man found dead is FIVE minute walk from where 12-year-old boy was shot
A murder probe is under way on a street just a five minute walk away from where a 12-year-old boy was shot in Sheffield.
Detectives launched an investigation into a suspicious death on the Arbourthorne estate in the early hours of this morning after a 54-year-old man was found outside a block of flats.
Paramedics were called to Brimmesfield Close at around 1.45am and the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police were then alerted and a 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out later.
Just over a week ago a 12-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting on nearby Northern Avenue.
The incidents are not being linked.
Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton said: “Officers from within the Major Crime Unit are working closely with detectives in Sheffield to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this man's death.
“There is currently a cordon outside the flats while officers continue with enquiries and speak to potential witnesses. At this moment in time, this incident is not being connected to any other investigations in that area.
“A 39-year-old man is currently in custody, assisting us with our enquiries in relation to this investigation and I'd like to ask anyone who saw or heard anything unusual in the area last night to contact us.”
