Sheffield drug-dealer jailed after police found antique revolver

A drug-dealer has been put behind bars after police found he had an antique handgun hidden in a garden.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on August 4 how Jordan Darby, aged 25, of Crowder Road, Longley, Sheffield, was found to have a handgun when they searched a property on Deerlands Avenue, Parson Cross, Sheffield.

Richard Holland, prosecuting, said: “On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, the defendant was arrested from a garden on Deerland Avenue, Sheffield, on suspicion of other offences.”

Mr Holland added Darby was searched and a Tesco carrier bag was found in a pram in a back garden shed with a handgun and four rounds of ammunition.

Darby initially denied any knowledge of the weapon but his DNA was found on the trigger, according to Mr Holland, and the defendant even claimed this was because he had spat in the bag but a forensic expert found no evidence of saliva.

The defendant, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited firearm. He also admitted two counts of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply including crack-cocaine and heroin.

Mr Holland said Darby had been searched in February 2020, and found with the drugs and £143.60 in cash after he had been a passenger in a car that was stopped by the police for driving erratically.

Andrew Smith, defending, said: “Drugs and firearms are not a combination of offending that these courts would like to see.”

However, he explained the weaon was an antique believed to be 150-years-old.

Judge Peter Kelson QC sentenced Darby to six-years of custody.
