Jerone Thompson, aged 23, of Halifax Road, Wadsley Bridge, Sheffield, admitted two counts of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply to another after he was found by police selling heroin and cocaine on Nelson Road, in Matlby, on March 10.

Stephanie Hollis, prosecuting, said police spotted the defendant and others and Thompson was found with phones and cash and another male had heroin and cocaine which he said he had bought from the defendant.

The court heard Thompson has previous convictions for attempted robbery and battery after he flagged-down a motorist and dragged him from his vehicle with the intention of stealing his car.

Tim Gaubert, defending, said Thompson had been struggling to find a job after his release from prison but he had started a course to work for the railway.

However, Mr Gaubert added that Thompson suffered an injured shoulder at the gym and he had to come off the course and he started using drugs.

Thompson developed a drug-debt and he was put under pressure to sell drugs, according to Mr Gaubert.

Mr Gaubert said: “He accrued a significant debt because of his drug-habit and pressure was brought upon him from those he had been buying drugs from him.”

Judge David Dixon sentenced Thompson to 40 months of custody.

He told Thompson: “There was an element of coercion but like most people dealing drugs you were doing it to feed your own habit.”
