Sheffield Crown Court heard on April 13 how Adriesh Ahmed, aged 53, of Machon Bank, Nether Edge, Sheffield, arrived home to find police had raided the property and he had to tell the officers that any drugs found did not belong to his parents.

Tom Heath, prosecuting, said police found 2.6kg of cannabis worth between an estimated £18,050 and £25,700 as well as 41.2grammes of cocaine valued between an estimated £900 and £1,680 all in bags and packages.

Recorder Darren Preston told Ahmed: “Drugs cause misery, not only to the users but also to completely innocent people who are burgled or robbed or stolen from by people desperate to get drugs. They are a blight on society.”

Police also found drug-dealing parafernalia including over £3,500 in cash, a mobile phone and relevant names linked to drug-dealing, according to Mr Heath.

Mr Heath said that because of the amount of drugs involved Ahmed was most likely a mid-level supplier supplying to low-level dealers who were in turn selling to street-dealers.

Ahmed, who has two previous convictions but nothing previously for drug-related offences, pleaded guilty after the raid on July 9, 2019, to possessing both class B drug cannabis and class A drug cocaine with intent to supply both.

Philip Turton, defending, said: “Mr Ahmed has taken steps to stop his addiction which was a root cause for his dealing and he has turned over a new leaf.”

Mr Turton added that Ahmed, who has expressed remorse, has been a carer for his parents for a significant time and if he goes to jail that burden will have to fall to someone else.

Recorder Preston told Ahmed: “You plainly went into this with your eyes open and you knew what you were doing and you resolved to do that on a fairly large scale.”

He said Ahmed had been “peddling misery and death” and he sentenced him to four years of custody.
