Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on February 20 how Michelle Antcliffe, aged 43, of Wordsworth Court, Sheffield, stole toiletries from the store in Sheffield on December 12.

Alison Goldsack, prosecuting, said the defendant was seen by a staff member emptying the contents of gifts sets into her bag and she was challenged and became abusive and was told to leave.

District Judge Grace Leong said she believed Antcliffe had contacted police to complain about her alleged treatement and Abigail Rollings, defending, confirmed if the defendant had just left the store she would not have ended-up in court. Antcliffe pleaded guilty to the theft.

Ms Rollings added that Antcliffe has struggled with drugs and personal difficulties.

Antcliffe was sentenced to an 18-month conditional discharge. She must pay £21 and £85 costs.
