Sheffield drink-driver was caught picking wife up from the cold

A boozed-up motorist told a court he had driven his car so he could pick his wife up from the cold.

Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on February 20 how Darren Carnall, 52, of Fretson Road, Sheffield, was seen by police struggling to park on a driveway.

Mark Hughes, prosecuting, said the vehicle was seen having difficulties attempting to get on a driveway on Fretson Road on January 18 and police approached Carnall and noticed he was under the influence of alcohol.

Carnall pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after registering 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the limit is 35 microgrammes.

The defendant said he had picked hsi wife up because it was cold and added he has problems with alcohol but is seeking help.

Carnall was fined £180 and must pay a £32 victim surcharge and £85 costs. He was banned from driving for 24 months.
