Sheffield church vandalised over Easter break

THE minister of a Sheffield church has condemned a vandal who damaged her church over Easter.

Claudia Lupi, the minister of Stanwood Methodist Church in Stannington, said she fears the attack was targeted.

A double-glazed window at the church was found smashed by a member of the church congregation on Friday morning.

Today Minister Lupi said: “It is terrible that somebody would do this.

“I view it as vandalism against the church and Christianity.

“I don’t believe the window was smashed to try to break into the church because nothing was taken, I believe it happened because it was Easter, which is a very important time for Christians. I believe it was targeted at the church.

“It is very, very sad to have had something like this happen at Easter.”

Brian Jones, the church member who discovered the vandalism, said: “It was Friday morning when we discovered that the window had been smashed.

“Nobody got into the church.

“It is disappointing but these things happen from time to time.”

Stanwood Methodist Church along with Dungworth, Loxley, Stannington, in north west Sheffield, form Fourways Methodist Church.

Each has its own congregations which worship in their own buildings but the administration is shared.

n Witnesses to the act of vandalism or anyone with information about the culprit responsible should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
