Everything we know as woman seriously injured in bus collision in Sheffield

Police are investigating

A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a collision with a bus on one of Sheffield’s busiest streets.

A bus and pedestrian were involved in the collision on Abbeydale Road, at the junction of London Road and Highfield Place, at lunch time on Tuesday, October 20.

The pedestrian was rushed to hospital where officers said she was in a “life-threatening” condition earlier this afternoon.

She is now described as serious bus stable.

The driver of the bus remained at the scene after the collision and cooperated with police, South Yorkshire Police said.

One local businesswoman said locals were shocked by what had happened.

Speaking from the Stunning Beauty salon, she said a large number of police officers and vehicles had been seen on the busy street, which is cordoned off with tape and under police guard.

A single-decker bus could be seen with the cordon after the road was closed off.

"Police are everywhere," she said.

"People had been saying that something had happened, and we could see the bus inside the cordon.

"People are shocked to hear that has happened."

Police have warned that the crash scene is cordoned off while enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are carried out.

Emergency services were first deployed at 11.54am.

The road was quickly closed as police issued an "avoid the area" warning advising motorists to find alternative routes around the cordon.

A ‘forensic collision investigation van’ was in attendance at the crash scene.

South Yorkshire Police are urging witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The force said: “We are appealing for witnesses and those with relevant dashcam footage to come forward following a road traffic collision in Sheffield.
