Sheffield boxing community await Brook news

Sheffield’s rival boxing camps are united behind a message of goodwill to world champion Kell Brook, who was stabbed in Tenerife this week.

Old pal Sam Sheedy said Brook’s wounds now appeared far more serious than initially thought. Speaking on video at, Sheedy said a relative of Brook had posted on Facebook that Brook was knifed: “three times in his leg once in arm. He was critical, lost a lot off blood. He had a major operation that saved his life.”

Sheedy said: “Initially I thought it was quite a minor incident, but his relative said it was serious.

“Obviously I was gutted by that. Everybody I know is wishing him well, he’s got a lot of backing.

“I have known him from 11 or 12 years old. He and I are from Sheffield and I have grown up around him. I always seen him as a quiet nice kid.”

If Brook’s first world title defence, scheduled for December 6, has to be cancelled it will represent a massive blow to his career.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who has been at his bedside in Tenerife, has had his eyes on multi-million pound match-ups with the likes of Amir Khan and Floyd Mayweather.
