Seven arrested and cash and a machete seized in police raids in Sheffield

Operation Duxford returned to Sheffield this week

Seven people have been arrested, while drugs and illegal off-road bikes have been taken of the streets after a police day of action.

Operation Duxford saw officers utilise previously gathered intel to head into the Manor and Arbourthorne areas of Sheffield to tackle criminality.

Drug supply, illegal off-road bikes, burglary, vehicle crime, and anti-social behaviour were all key areas of focus as police executed five warrants throughout the day.

In total, seven people were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including possession with intent to supply drugs, handling stolen goods, and the production or manufacturing of drugs.

All have since been bailed.

Acting Inspector Elizabeth Wilson, who led the day of action, said: “As police officers we are constantly gathering intelligence and carrying out enforcement action as we seek to disrupt criminals.

“Operation Duxford is an opportunity to provide you, the public, with an insight into what we are able to achieve with the help of the information you provide us with.

“As well as the positive results from Wednesday’s warrants, we spent the day working with partners from across Sheffield, including Trading Standards, to disrupt illicit trading.

Thousands of pounds in cash were also seized along with dangerous weapons including machetes.

Three illegal off-road bikes were taken off the roads and more than 150 vehicles were checked as part of a community speed watch carried out by Police Community Support Officers.

Around 40 vehicles were found to be travelling over the 30mph speed limit and police have said that advisory notices will now be issued.

Officers also caught 12 speeding drivers and seized one vehicle.

Meanwhile, more than 25,000 cigarettes and 33 illegal vapes were seized from two businesses.

“We also used the opportunity to engage with drivers who have been parking dangerously near local schools, and our presence resulted in some really positive engagement,” inspector Wilson added.

“This work is not a ‘one-off’, but we need your support as we continue to focus on the issues that matter most to you.

“Remember that you can report information to us online, by calling 101, or completely anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.

“My thanks go to everyone who stopped to engage with us on Wednesday. Please continue to approach us if you have any questions or concerns about anything going on in your area.

“We are here, and we are always ready to help.”
