Kelly Smith, aged 36, of Victoria Court, Kiveton Park, Rotherham, struck four times at three stores, according to a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing which was sitting at the Sheffield Crown Court building.

District Judge Grace Leong told Smith during the hearing on May 27: “You have had the benefit of many community orders in the past and breached them again and again.”

She added: “You have reached the end of the road.”

Alison Goldsmith, prosecuting, said Smith was stopped by staff at a Co-op in Eckington, on March 31, and she was found with four bottles of spirits.

Ms Goldsmith added staff viewed CCTV and Smith was also identified as previously stealing items from the store on March 30.

Smith also struck at a Co-op at Stocksbridge on April 7 with another shoplifter, according to Ms Goldsmith, and they fled in a car but the vehicle was traced by police and three stolen bottles of spirits and an air freshener were found in a rucksack in the boot.

Ms Goldsmith said Smith was also captured on camera footage on May 23 stealing five bottles of alcohol from an Aldi, in Maltby.

Smith, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to the four thefts and admitted breaching a conditional discharge previously imposed for a theft.

Kathryn Lill said Smith has had alcohol issues and has been weaning herself of crack cocaine and heroin.

Smith was sentenced to ten-weeks of custody and ordered to pay £83.95 compensation.
