Scott Bell, aged 26, formerly of Barnsley but now remanded in custody at HMP Doncaster, was charged yesterday with robbery and possession of an offensive weapon following a raid at a Premier store on Burncross Road, Burncross, last September.

Earlier this month Steven Gillis, 42, of Victoria Street, Barnsley, was charged with robbery and theft of a motor vehicle and remanded into custody over the same incident.

Gillis is due at court on March 17 and Bell on March 24.

They were charged after two men entered a shop at 4pm on September 10 and threatened the owner with a knife and screwdriver before stealing two charity boxes and cash from in the till and behind the counter.

Somewhere between £500 and £700 was stolen altogether along with 100 packets of cigarettes and the shop owner’s wallet.
