Second man arrested over attempted murder as Sheffield stabbing victim remains in hospital

A second arrest has been made over a stabbing outside a mosque in Sheffield.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and later released under investigation, it has been revealed today.

He was arrested after a 35-year-old man was knifed close to the Markazi Jamia Masjid mosque on Industry Road, Darnall, at around 3.30pm on Saturday, January 30.

He was given emergency first aid by those at the mosque until medics arrived and transferred him to hospital.

The man remains in hospital today and is said to be ‘recovering well’.

A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in the immediate aftermath was later released under investigation after police questioning.

The attacker is believed to have been driving a black Nissan Qashqai which was then driven to Whitby Road, close to Fisher Lane, where attempts were made to torch it on the day of the attack.
