“Whilst one of our officers was resuming from dealing with another motorist, this rider thought he would ride past, whilst holding his phone out recording the officer,” said South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support Unit.

“Bad timing. Our officer was poised and ready to deal with his next customer.

“The scooter proceeded to drive through several red lights, failing to stop for only a few seconds, before the rider had a close encounter with pedestrian railings on a crossing.”

The driver also left behind the mobile phone, leading police to joke that they wanted to trace him so the officer could ‘check his best side was captured’.
