Residents across the Hope Valley have signed up to become new members of the Farm Watch scheme, in a bid to cut crime in rural areas.

Officers from the Bakewell and Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood took to the road last week to encourage local people to join the scheme.

They visited Hathersage, Grindleford, Bradwell, Rowsley, Hartington, Monyash, Tideswell, Litton, Baslow, Eyam, Great Longstone and Bakewell to promote the scheme, which allows the police and partners to spread messages quickly across the farming community.

During the roadshow, the team security coded several Land Rovers with Smart Water.

PCSO Anthony Boswell from the local policing team said: “The Farm Watch project is hugely successful and allows messages about crime, suspicious activity and appeals to be spread quickly to residents who want to stay in the loop about local policing in their area. It allows us to work together with rural communities to tackle crime and bring those responsible to justice.”F
