Safety advice on offer for Chesterfield shoppers

Police in Chesterfield are to host two safety events in the run-up to Christmas to help shoppers protect their purses.

They will be reminding people to make sure they keep their purses, wallets and valuables safe while in the town centre over the festive period.

PCSO Tiffany Hall, of the Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “With Christmas fast approaching, stores in the town centre are likely to get busier and we are advising shoppers to take care and to keep their purses and valuables safe.

“It’s easy to get distracted at this time of year so I would urge people to make sure they keep belongings well secured and hidden away in a zipped bag or inside pocket.”

The events will be held in a mobile police station in the Market Place between 10am and 3pm this Thursday, November 7, and again on Tuesday, December 17.

PCSO Hall added: “Please be mindful of safety while out shopping and do your bit to help us keep your Christmas crime free.

“Shoppers are advised to stay vigilant and be aware of other people around them, keep purses, wallets and valuables in a secure handbag or inside a coat or jacket pocket.”
