Two brave residents confronted burglars in separate raids in Rotherham on the same night.

In the first incident, on Sunday, between 5.45pm and 6.15pm, the occupant of a flat on Church Street, Swinton, returned home to find the door open and a stranger inside,

There was a brief scuffle before the offender, who had forced a bedroom window to gain entry, ran off.

The culprit is described as slim, white, aged about 29, about 5ft 8in and with short or shaved hair.

At 8pm, a man who had been asleep in his home on Wensleydale Road, Wingfield, heard a knock at his front door and shortly later heard a noise at the back of the property.

When he went to investigate, he found two men with their faces covered in his conservatory.

They had forced locks on the doors to enter.

One made verbal threats about stabbing the occupant, before the pair were chased out and climbed over a fence to escape.
