POLICE have arrested a South Yorkshire pub landlord over allegations that he conned football fans out of around £17,000.

Lee Mills, who ran the Hare and Hounds pub on Wellgate in Rotherham town centre, has been quizzed by detectives over the reported scam.

He was reported to South Yorkshire Police by football fans who claimed that over 70 of them had each paid £240 to Mr Mills when he offered to charter a plane to take them to Rotherham United’s last away game of the season at Plymouth.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said officers had tracked him down.

She said: “Police have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of theft and fraud, following recent investigations into alleged fraud involving flights to a Rotherham United away game.”
