Wayne White admitted stealing electrical goods and a mobile phone from Kelford Special School, on Oakdale Road, between November 6 and 10, at Sheffield Crown Court, on Thursday.

Dermot Hughes, for White, said: "He has a very poor record. But last year a community order was made and he stayed out of trouble.

"He says the offending was a result of his methadone script being withdrawn."

Mr Hughes asked for sentencing to be adjourned until a probation report can be prepared.

White, 49, of Upper Clara Street, Kimberworth, also admitted receiving stolen electrical goods and £490 in cash from a burglary at Bradgate Motors, on Wortley Road.

Judge David Dixon adjourned the case for sentencing on January 30, and warned White: "You will be produced on that day by force if necessary.

"Earlier you decided to walk out of the video link because you couldn't wait.

"A requirement to attend court is a requirement to attend court. I will get to the stage soon where I will simply lock people up if they refuse to attend."

Judge Dixon added: "If you got an order last year and there are reasons why this offence happened, then it may be possible to give you a suspended sentence. I make no guarantees."
