Rotherham man accused of Ann Widdecombe's murder rearrested for terror offences as 'new evidence' uncovered
A Rotherham man remains in custody on suspicion of terror offences
Counter Terrorism Police have officially taken over investigations into the death of Ann Widdecombe following the discovery of “new information.”
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood made the announcement shortly before 12.40pm on Monday (July 13).
The Labour Minister said that the force will be continuing the ongoing work, as a 28-year-old arrested in Rotherham remains in custody.

The man, who was arrested on Saturday (July 11), has now been rearrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Previously, Devonshire and Cornwall Police were heading the investigation, and worked with South Yorkshire Police to coordinate the arrest in Kimberworth Park.
Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Ms Mahmood said: “This morning I have spoken to the head of [Counter Terrorism Police].
“Following new information and evidence, they are now leading on the investigation into the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe.
“The police are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack. I will be updating the House further this afternoon.
“My thoughts today remain with Ann’s family and friends, and all those who loved her.”
Former Conservative MP and Reform UK spokesperson Ann Widdecombe was found dead in her home on July 9, with police believing she had been murdered the day before.
Police had previously said that there was “nothing to suggest" the attack was politically motivated.
In a statement released on Monday (July 12), Devon and Cornwall Police said: “At this time, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism related incident.
“And at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.
“We retain primacy of this investigation and detectives remain open minded about any potential motive, but at this stage there is nothing to suggest that it was politically motivated.”
