Robbery victim makes Crimewatch plea

A TERRIFIED woman threatened with a knife and punched by a masked robber in her Peak District home spoke of her ordeal on Crimewatch last night.

Audrey Charles was upstairs in her home in Netherside, Bradwell, near Castleton, when she turned round to find somebody behind her brandishing a weapon.

The 66-year-old tried to run past the raider when he threatened her but he chased the pensioner and punched her before running off with cash.

Mrs Charles, who was left with a cut lip and bruising to her arm, said the burglar was white, slim to medium build and wearing a balaclava. He was wearing a long grey-sleeved sweatshirt with white writing on the chest.

Police arrested two men, aged 19 and 18, but they were later released without charge.

Officers turned to the BBC’s Crimewatch programme in the hope that anyone who knew anything about the raid on Wednesday, February 23, would come forward with information.Det Con Derek Ellis, of Matlock CID, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim.”
